I own several of these devices. They are well designed, with the USB connector retracting into the body. The loop at the end is strong and will not break easily when carried in your pocked on a keychain.(Be sure to use the little ring included with the package to attach it.)
Read and write speeds are adequate. Some people have claimed that this particular unit is slow. I don’t really understand what they are talking about. I routinely transfer several gigabytes of data to one of these units and it doesn’t appear to take an unseemly amount of time. One has to wonder if the complainers aren’t overlooking some other factors, such as a problem with the Windows copy process which is inherently flawed and that I never use for transferring large amounts of data or a great number of files. You are much better off using BeyondCompare or any number of other utilities for such tasks.
These devices often to on sale, so you might be well served being patient and waiting for such a sale.
Overall, I think these are terrific bargains and absolutely great for transporting significant amounts of data.

I was impressed with the previous 2Gig transcend model 110. I bought this one, thinking that it was going to be just as quick.
I was wrong. It is horrible with writes. 8GB models are a different technology from the 2Gigs models and probably the 4GB, too.
I am going to stick with SanDisk 4GB Titanium until I can find a review showing that 8GB devices are worthy. I think Transcend is a fine company, but they release leading edge products that should remain in the Q&A labs.
I will call them and see if I can get a replacement or credit.
This USB flash drive may be cheap, but it is also very slow, especially for one so big. If you need to carry an incredible amount of data with you that you hardly ever access and almost never change, then this might be for you. But, for the average user, the manufacturer says: System Performance Read 10 MB/sec Write 2 MB/sec. This is very slow, compared to any modern high-performance drive. My OCZ Rally2 4GB has an impressive 23.8MB/s average read speeds, 14.8MB/s write speeds. The Corsair Flash Voyager GT is even faster at read speed of 33.8MB/s. So buyer beware!
